-Mark Elms, Mayfield Services Delivery Manager

One of Australia's most ambitious projects.

Watch a 3 month build in 30 seconds

Our continuous focus on leadtime and quality allows us to manufacture and deliver to site a 53m switchroom in less than 3 months. Switchrooms are delivered to site with switchgear installed, cabled and pre-commissioned.

Newman Switchboard Upgrade

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Perth, Western Australia

SCOPE

Design, manufacture and testing 4 415V IP66 Power Distribution Panels (PDPs), 1 415V IP54 PDP inside a custom in-house fabricated outer kiosk and 2 Generator Connection Boxes.

POST PROJECT FEEDBACK AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

Our Moducell IP66 switchboard enclosures were perfect for this brownfield site project. With its double skinned modular design, we managed to minimise the footprint for this switchboard replacement project where space constraints were a major consideration.

In many cases, the Mayfield team were ahead of the curve, through utilising inner and outer doors of the IP66 with mechanical interlocking to create several layers security meeting restricted access and isolation requirements. Our in-house sheetmetal fabrication capability also allowed us to customise the Outer Kiosk and Generator Connection Boxes and control delivery timescales to the customer specific needs.

Brockman 2 Electrical Infrastructure Replacement

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Perth, Western Australia

SCOPE

415V Moducell double-sided MCC’s, purpose-built PLC’s, VSD and remote switching panels, outdoor enclosures and transportable switchrooms.

POST PROJECT FEEDBACK AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

This brownfield project came with inherited challenges for design restrictions and time pressure. It’s clear that Mayfield’s expertise easily accounted for multiple finer details, which all added up to a smooth installation.

The close collaboration between both teams, working side-by-side value engineering from early design through to final installation prevented costly errors, facilitated clear exchange of knowledge and made this project a great success.

Tom Price - Phase 1 Switchgear Replacement

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Perth, Western Australia

SCOPE

Design, manufacture and testing of 5 brownfield substation equipment replacements. This includes 415 MCC’s, PLC’s, Remote Switching, Battery Chargers, UPS systems and DB’s.

POST PROJECT FEEDBACK AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

The team from Mayfield understood from the outset that we had to achieve a tight program, the first part of which included delivery of 415V MCC and PLC within 12 weeks of award – we are pleased to say we met every single shutdown window deadline.

This 30-year old site was found to require engineering solutions that would ensure the installation of our retrofit equipment would meet current compliance requirements. Bespoke sliding doors for the PLC enclosures, intelligent shipping splits and clear communication across stakeholders streamlined the entire project process and created a great outcome. The client was very pleased with the results of phase 1 and we are now working together on a much larger phase 2.

Talinga-Orana Gas Field

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Adelaide, South Australia

SCOPE

Design, supply, integration, testing and pre-commissioning of 3 switchrooms. Comprising of 33kV and 11kV Switchgear, 11kV VSDs, Moducell 415V MCCs, PLC and Communications systems.

POST PROJECT FEEDBACK AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

The convoy encountered strong winds and poor visibility from dust during the 1,800km journey. Thanks to the high quality design and finish, the Train 1 & 2 Switchroom buildings arrived in perfect condition at the Talinga-Orana Gas Field just outside Chinchilla (300km west of Brisbane).  Working closely with the Client, Mayfield compressed into 3 switchrooms what previously delivered through 7 switchrooms.  A significant challenge was cooling of the 11kV VSDs that generated 150kW of heatload, this was achieve through the use of vertical packaged HVAC units managed by a HVAC control panel.

Canberra Light Rail

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Adelaide, South Australia

SCOPE

Design, supply, integration, testing and pre-commissioning of 5 Traction switchrooms. Comprising of MV and LV AC and DC switchboards, Traction Dry Type Transformers, Auxiliary transformers, Control and Communications systems.

POST PROJECT FEEDBACK AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

Challenges were resolved in the development of solutions to isolate the AC and DC voltages.  The Traction transformers generate between 2kW and 25kW of heatload in the confined space.  Mayfield developed an innovative cooling solution that could accommodate the rapidly changing load.

Snapper Mineral Sands

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Adelaide, South Australia

SCOPE

Design, manufacture and testing and pre-commissioning of a switchroom located on a floating mineral sands plant.  Comprising of LV MCCs, 1.2MW of LV Drives, PLC, computer floor and a challenging atmospheric environment.

POST PROJECT FEEDBACK AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

A project delivered a number of years ago, but one we are very proud of.  The switchroom is located on a floating plant above a highly saline mineral sands lake.  The room contained 1.2MW of LV Drives generating considerable heatload.  Due to the environment, traditional split systems for cooling were not sufficient.  We delivered a solution that utilised a custom designed and built evaporative cooling system.  Clad the building in Aluminium, solved potential risks around galvanic corrosion and coated all structural steelwork in a high build epoxy.

Westconnex

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Adelaide, South Australia

SCOPE

Design, manufacture and deliver 44 x Okken Fully withdrawable Motor Control Centres with dual incomers and ATS.  Development of custom protection program for the Tesys T relays and communication with Allen Bradley PLC.

POST PROJECT FEEDBACK AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

The Client was concerned with delivering the project on time as the design was still in development. The evolving design challenged the program initially, but once resolved we were able to deliver the project ahead of the schedule.  Mayfield proposed Okken to the Client as the fully withdrawable design allowed the commissioning phase to commence in parallel to cable termination.  The fully withdrawable modules could be racked into a position that completely isolates power to the outgoing terminals.

Gudai-Darri Iron Ore Mine - Data Centre

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Adelaide, South Australia

SCOPE

Design, manufacture, factory acceptance testing, packaging, transport and documentation of two communications rooms. Including 30 off 48RU racks; a fire system; 2 UPSs, bypass switches and UPS DBs; CRAC system and pressurisation; 2-hour fire rating of structural elements; and L&SP DB.

POST PROJECT FEEDBACK AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

When operational, Gudai-Darri (formerly known as Koodaideri) in WA’s Pilbara will be one of the world’s most technologically advanced mines. Harnessing our experience in Tier 1 data centres and communications rooms, we took the customer’s concept design and responded with our own optimised one.

As requested, the solution included multiple redundancies with UPS and batteries for backup. However, it also included a unique hot aisle containment system with CRAC (computer room air conditioning) cooling units for critical communications racks, plus pressurisation to control air flow – making the cooling system more energy efficient and stable. A raised floor incorporated subfloor power and data trays, and we delivered twice the redundancy on the UPS to safeguard uptime.

In response to the client’s exacting safety standards, the communications rooms were fabricated to a two-hour fire rating with a fire system incorporating VESDA and FM-200® gaseous fire suppression.

Our ability to accelerate the manufacturing and delivery was a clear standout. Having in house fabrication capability meant we could take on additional scope that the client otherwise would have had to wait months for from another supplier.

SOLAR FARM, BURONGA NSW

MANUFACTURING LOCATION

Adelaide, South Australia

SCOPE
